Sara Brown
Founder, Director & Board Member
Sara is the founder and director of Project Hope and is based in Cape Town. A devoted wife and mother, she balances family life with leading the organisation’s vision and programmes. Since founding Project Hope in 2020, Sara has remained passionate about supporting vulnerable children and families through holistic early childhood development, with a focus on education, health, nutrition, psychosocial support, and caregiver empowerment.
She oversees the strategic direction and day-to-day management of the organisation, while working closely with local communities, schools, and partners to help strengthen sustainable support systems for children. Sara especially values partnerships with organisations and individuals who share a heart for creating meaningful, long-term change in the lives of children and families.

Kirsten McGregor
Chair of the Board
Kirsten serves as Chair of the Board and spokesperson for Project Hope and lives in the Upper Highway area of KwaZulu-Natal. A wife, mother, and corporate professional, she quietly gives countless hours of her time to supporting the work of Project Hope, carrying a heart that often seems far too big for her body.
She is known for her love of lists, quirky stationery, colourful pens, and for keeping the children’s records beautifully organised and carefully updated. Behind the scenes, Kirsten brings steady encouragement, compassion, and genuine care for the children and families at the heart of Project Hope’s work.

Nontobeko Gwamanda
ECD Programme Manager & KwaNyuswa Area Team Leader
Nonto lives in the Valley of a Thousand Hills in KwaZulu-Natal and has a deep passion for supporting young children and the families around her. Motivated by the needs she saw within her own community, she started her own successful ECD centre and continues to share her knowledge and experience with other ECD centres in the area.
She serves as Project Hope’s Early Childhood Development Programme Manager and also leads the KwaNyuswa area, where she supports the rollout of programmes and helps ensure that implementation across ECD centres is consistent, responsive, and aligned with Project Hope’s approach. Nonto is deeply committed to strengthening early learning environments and supporting children to grow up in safe, nurturing spaces where they can learn, develop, and thrive.

Zinhle Phakathi
EmboWebsite Area Team Leader
Zinhle first came to Project Hope as the mother of a sponsored child, at a time when life was not easy for her and her family. Slowly but steadily, she engaged with the programme alongside her son Imi, finding support and stability through the different layers of care offered. Over time, her second son, Wandile, also joined the programme, and the family journeyed forward together.
Through this process, Zinhle grew in confidence, strength, and hope in ways that have transformed both her life and outlook. Today, she is almost unrecognisable from the place she started, not because she has changed who she is, but because of how much she has grown. Zinhle now serves as Team Leader in the Embo Reserve area in KwaZulu-Natal and is a living example of what Project Hope represents — showing how long-term, holistic support can strengthen families and contribute to breaking cycles of intergenerational poverty.
