Eight months have flown by, and our hearts swell with pride for Busi. You might remember her story—the broken spirit we encountered by the side of the road near Thomas Moore College. Back then, she was frail, unwell, and utterly drained, her heart surrounded by towering walls. She was hesitant to share her pain, expressing only a desire to escape it all, crying on the grass verge.
Busi had endured a harrowing existence, living in the corner of an old tool shed with her two daughters. She didn’t choose to beg; her health struggles and challenging family circumstances had forced her into this heartbreaking situation. We embraced her with open arms and hearts, taking a leap of faith, and trusting her words.
And she was truthful.
Together, we’ve navigated a journey filled with visits to private doctors, clinic referrals, medication trials, and transforming a rented room into a warm home. We’ve discussed budgeting, and health, and made sure she understood the importance of good nutrition and self-worth, all while soothing her children and enrolling them in wonderful schools.
This transformation wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible generosity of many who have supported Busi through prayer, donations, and financial help.
Now, Busi is learning to sew, and next month marks a beautiful milestone: she will pay her full rent from the proceeds of the stunning garments she creates for her church.
It’s so easy to judge, to look at strangers and question their integrity, and to fear the broken souls we encounter. Let Busi be a shining example of the power of faith, kindness, and a non-judgmental spirit.
We won’t always get it right, but with Busi, that leap of faith has transformed the lives of a mother and her two children. This is why we do what we do.
The world is yours now Busi. Always part of our Project Hope family. May you always remember your journey and how the love and kindness of strangers changed your world forever. May you do the same for someone else when the opportunity stares you in the eyes.
