In the Valley of 1000 Hills, life is rich in culture but lacking in many of life’s basic necessities. Amid proud Nguni cows, stray dogs birthing more puppies than their frail bodies can bear, and children wandering streets unaware of lurking dangers, Project Hope was born.

After years of working in these hills, Sara, a Registered Nurse and Public Health Specialist, witnessed the heartbreaking struggles of some of South Africa’s most vulnerable children.

Then, when COVID-19 struck, a wise and generous friend donated a converted shipping container, once a food business, to Sara after it could no longer operate. That simple gift changed the future of hundreds of children.

Project Hope, a nonprofit dedicated to children aged 0 to 5, focuses on the most critical stage of life, when 90% of brain development occurs. This window shapes futures, reduces poverty, and can transform entire communities.

In South Africa, access to early childhood education remains out of reach for many. Children are often left at home with caregivers who themselves lack nurturing, support, or education. Bedtime stories and comforting hugs are replaced by the harsh realities of survival.

Preschool offers so much more than learning. It’s a safe space where children receive food, hygiene care, emotional support, and sometimes a warm bath or food parcel to take home.

While we wait for systemic change, Project Hope steps in. Our Child Sponsorship Programme exists because the need is urgent. For just R700/month (or R350 shared), you can provide:

  • Quality early education
  • Nutritious meals
  • Hygiene and clothing support
  • Emotional and psychological care

But it doesn’t end there. We empower parents, too, offering parenting classes, life skills, and small business training. In return, they help with cooking, cleaning, and gardening at our school. It’s a partnership rooted in dignity: not handouts, but hands up.

Please help us. Be the reason a child gets a real chance.

Go to our “Sponsor a Child” tab today and sign up for our Child Sponsorship Program—and help us deliver that child safely into Grade R and a brighter future.
